SOUTH CAROLINA TEAM
Dr. Sarah Blackwell was born and raised in Matthews, North Carolina. She graduated from Tuskegee University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. She continued her education at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine, completing a large animal medicine and surgery internship. Her hobbies include working out, fishing, and spending time with her family and pets.
Dr. Kevin Scruggs hails from the great city of Detroit, MI. He graduated then ventured to Alabama to complete undergraduate and veterinary school at Tuskegee University. Afterwards, Dr. Scruggs headed straight to Houston, TX to pursue his veterinary medicine career. He honed his skills beside various mentors in small animal clinics and shelter facilities. After years of experience, Dr. Scruggs decided to embark on the journey of entrepreneurship with Dr. Blackwell and soon to join, Dr. Prioleau. It has always been a dream of Dr. Scruggs that is now coming to fruition in 2021. He is excited to expand Ark Veterinary Services into a mixed animal practice.
Dr. Julie Miller grew up in Florida where she completed her bachelors and masters degrees at theUniversity of Florida. She then attended veterinary school at St. George’s University on the beautiful Caribbean island Grenada, and completing her clinical rotations at the University of Tennessee. Her first year out of vet school was spent doing a large animal medicine and surgery internship at Mississippi State University. When she’s not working, she enjoys spending time with her two dogs and two cats, dancing, and hiking
Brittney Moye is from Sumter, SC and is currently pursuing her Veterinary Technician degree at PennFoster. She previously worked at the Sumter SPCA for 2 years. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her daughter (Brynleigh) and her 3 dogs (Cutter, Chevy, and Sadie).
Tanner Walston is from Sumter, South Carolina. He is an Air Force Veteran who specialized in stealth fighter aircraft maintenance. Tanner also has experience with equine training and small animal technical care. In his spare time, you’ll find Tanner studying for his second pilot license or flying. Tanner also enjoys spending time with family, friends, and his pets.
Anne Bradley was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in various areas of South Carolina. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from Grand Canyon University and is looking into obtaining another Bachelor’s from Penn Foster in Veterinary Tech Anne has been in law enforcement for 9 years with the last 4 spent as a K9 handler. Her K9, Vera, is a 5.5 year old Belgian Malinois, who is trained specifically in Narcotics work. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, her family, her friends, and her other animals, Copper and CoCo. She also enjoys traveling, listening to music, trying new things, and eating all kinds of food!
Brandi Sowell is from Florence, South Carolina. She attended The University of South Carolina – go Gamecocks! Brandi brings a vast array of medical training to Ark Veterinary Services LLC. She previously was a pharmacy technician, veterinary surgery assistant, and shelter coordinator. Brandi loves rescuing animals, vacationing at Disney World, Diet Pepsi, and pickles.
Shelby Beaudet was born and raised in Sumter, SC. She is a graduate of Erskine College with a B.S. Degree in Special Education. When she is not teaching her own herd at school, she enjoys reading or finding crafts to work on. Shelby grew up as a member in 4H which awarded her the opportunity to work with and show livestock for over 18 years!
Lauren Cathey is a native of Charlotte, NC – and thanks in part to Dr. Blackwell, has been around animals all her life. She started her collegiate career at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) and transferred to Johnson C. Smith University; where she graduated Cum Laude in May 2016 with a B.S. in Business Administration. Ms. Cathey started her path in veterinary medicine as a receptionist at Mallard Creek Animal Hospital while at UNCC, and now is the Office Manager for Ark Veterinary Services. When not at work, Ms. Cathey can be found spending time with family and friends or immersed in a book! She has 2 fur “babies” – her cats, Muffie and Boots.
